  1. I have a .avi file downloaded from the BBC and it says it is encoded with ac3. How can I strip the ac3 portion please. In virtualdub I can save .wav file but the .wav won't play back properly.

In other words I want to demux out the ac3 file from my avi file...

    Thanks

Try using Virtualdubmod to open the avi. Go to Streams>Stream List, select the audio and click the demux button.

VirtualDub Select audio -> Direct Stream copy. Save wav. VDub saves a AC3 with WAV headers. Rename from whatever.wav to whatever.ac3 Fix the AC3 with AC3fix (removing the WAV headers).

You can save a step with Virtualdubmod because it can output a .ac3 file.

It pays to have them all! I have Virtualdub 1.4c-ASF, Virtualdub MPEG2, Virtualdub MP3 Freeze and Virtualdubmod. I've never used Virtualdub Sync, as I don't ever capture with Vdub.

WOW! Well, I have a crush on command line tools, so for this task, I think I'll stick with VDub STD + AC3Fix

In my experience the output'd ac3 files are still not accepted by TMPGEnc DVD Author (Not try'd dvdlab)

out of habit I alwasy run it through vdub (std) and and AC3fix GUI (little plug for myself - sorry :P )

  10. thats not problem though,as you can fix the ac3 files with "besliced".
works wonders, even on split and rejoined files.
just drag the file over the old guys face"i kid not" ,
    and click fix.
    in like 30 seconds,its done.

I'm pretty sure DVD2AVI only works with mpeg-2 sources. That's how the version that I have is anyway.
