  1. Anyone know of a type of software which _automatically_ generates realtime video with no layout required? I've crafted my share of slideshows and custom videos but I'm looking for something that takes me out of loop completely. I want the software to choose the media (photo, video clips, audio), randomize the order, and dynamically render the video real-time to my screen. Photos would be intermixed with random-length video clips, complete with transitions and all set to music. I don't want a resulting AVI or MPG... I just want to start the software and let it go. (no importing, layout, nothing... as new media is introduced on my system the software would automatically include it in the stream)

    Am I dreaming?

Do you want someone to turn on the PC for you too? Maybe I'm wrong, but I think you're being a bit unrealistic.

I don't think he's being unrealistic - there's a program called Sound Raider that scours your hard drive, finds any .wav files and makes a random ambient / industrial mix from them - the only input from the user is to restrict the scope of the search and to hit "play" and "stop".

so it's possible to do it - but I don't know of any software that will do it automatically.

*that's* the type of result I'm looking for. (thanks for the info)

Don't misunderstand the intent -- I've used Movie Maker, Pinnacle, Ulead, and Magix products to create productions, and this is no replacement for that type of activity.

Our digital media collections are growing, and I think an application like this is a novel way of tapping into them.

I believe this a feature similar to this being built into Longhorn. It's a sort of personal diary that you can add to with all the digital media that records your life or has meaning for you.

I'd be a bit concerned about something that just scoured the harddrive for media and presented it. You never know what it might find in the dark recesses of your internet cache . . . . . . .
