  1. Right now I have the E80 and think of buying a Panny E85 or a Pioneer 510. My question is the E85 a 1X or 2X or 4X burner. And if it is a 2X or 4X burner can you slow down the burning to help be more stable with some media. I heard alot of back about the E100 having burning problem as the E80 did not have those problem's. Thank you

I've got this unit, and the burner is 4x. Complete DVD burned in around 15 minutes. Great!!! Although, I haven't figured out how to slow the burn down...any ideas? Not that it really appears to matter, as the results are terrific at 4x.

I don't think you can - the recorder will record at the maximum it can. If 4x media is suspect as 4x then I don't think you can do much about it.... (other then use some decent media!)

From personal experience (and please Nooooo flaming this is just my opinion...) I have always used Ritek G03 and Ritek G04 (datasafe) with Zero coasters on both my Panasonic standalone and PC DVD Burner (Pioneer).

  4. I have the E100 and I believe the problem was that some models didn't like certain brands of media, not with picture quality (some liked Ritek, some liked Ricohs rebadged as Memorex, but it varied). Mine works great at 4X with Ritek. It did only burn some TDK 2X at 1X though (Taiwan made if interested). My Pioneer 106 burns the TDK at the correct 2X however. As TeeRex mentions, the Panasonic will automatically select the highest speed possible (no choice). I think once you identify the brand(s) that works the best for you, you won't have any problems.
