  1. Just so you know, I'm cheap. I want to use only freeware because I hear its possible and so I don't see the need to pay for any software, especially when I can hassle this forum for help on how do it .

To begin with I captured some DV footage to my PC with DVIO. Then after editing it with Movie Maker I saved it as PAL AVI. I then converted the avi file with TmpGenc to the PAL DVD standard .m2v and .wav.

From what I have read in the guides on this site, the next step is to use IFOedit to created the files and folders needed for a standard DVD. After finding Author New DVD in a menu I choose the .m2v file and the .wav file and ignoring the chapter and various other options I hit entered the run command.

This produced a few files and a Video_Ts folder I think. I previewed the .VOB file with IFOedit and the video played at double speed and the audio played properly. So the fast forwarded video finished when the audio was only half way there. As you have guessed I was not satisfied with the result. I played the .VOB file with the Cyberlink Power DVD player software as well to see what happened; I got the same result.

I was wondering whether this error was down to a quirk with .VOB files and DVD player software or had IFOedit screwed up the encoding process?

If you used TMPGenc to convert to m2v and wav you must have used part of the 30 day free trial as that is how long you get for Mpeg2 encoding.
The same goes for TMPGenc DVD Author 30 day trial.

  4. There's another free authoring program, dvdauthorgui. It's a bit easier than IFOEdit and somewhat more capable. Also, get ffmpeggui to convert your wav audio to mp2 (dvdauthorgui doesn't accept ac3), more bitrate for your video that way. Good luck.

    (dvdauthorgui doesn't accept ac3)
Sorry to hijack, but the gui can accept a valid ac3 file, for an audio stream.

Was my information out of date? Haven't read the documentation for the last several versions. Fairly sure it was true at one time, anyway.

Evidently I confused it with something else. Thanks for setting me straight.

  10. who mentioned ifoedit not working on NTSC,your wrong,it does.
and the original poster said PAL,not NTSC,cant you read.
i would think that you need a better codec for the video, than the one you have, change it and see what happens.
and use virtualdubmod for stripping the audio from the original file, and save as a WAV.
tmpgenc is shit for making the mp2 files, out of sync, shit quality, and maybe even that is you problem.give vdubmod a try,and maybe change a codec ,thats my advice.
but ifoedit works fine for me,PAL or NTSC.

  11. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, but it's sorted out now. I made a DVD image file using that nifty free image creator tool (FreeImg I think), and burned using a friend's DVD-RW. When I played it back the same problem arose, i.e. the video played at double the normal speed but the audio was fine.

IfoEdit isn't the most beginner friendly program and trying to figure out what it was doing wrong was impossible. But I realised I had been using IfoEdit 0.95 because the site I got it from reassured me that it was more stable than the latest release 0.96 (yeah right!)

I installed the latest version and created the video_ts files and all that crap and holy s**t: it worked. I couldn't believe it, a dvd made for free, almost...

I use toolame as a plugin in TMPGEnc. and don't seem to have any audio issues.
