    Hi all,

    Is it possible to do that ?

    I have some already compliant MPEG2 files I'd like to edit (aply filters), but without affecting their quality;

    So, I figure the best to do would be the opposite way, I mean, convert them to AVI, edit and then reencode later to MPEG2;

    As far as I know, DVD2AVI only frame serves the files (?);

    Thanks,

    Zetti

    Use VirtualDubMod. Open the MPEG file, save as AVI (make sure and pick a suitable DV codec like Panasonic or something similar)

    isn't possible.

    Using a DV codec is stupid, use Huffyuv, it's lossless, but you don't need to do either.

    You can edit, but if you apply filters then you will lose quality. There is absolutely no need to change it to AVI first, simply apply the filters to the source. Either use VDUBMOD (or regualr VDUB works for me), filter and frameserve, or use the filters in TMPGEnc if your trying to clean up noise.

    You will lose quality re-encoding, so you need to see if the filter offsets the quality loss.

    I think his purpose was so that he could grab Mpeg2 structured files, and do some Premiere Pro editing (from his previous posts). Since Mpeg2 to doesn't edit nicely, spitting out an .AVI would be the next best thing.

    I too have run into this problem..

    Premiere 6.5 allowed you to serve a .d2v file (via Avisynth and DVD2AVI) to the timeline and edit, but Premiere Pro doesn't recognize the .AVS plugin from previous versions..Too bad.

    lgh529 method seems to be the next best option as far as i know...If you're shooting for quality, then perhaps Uncompressed .AVI could be used??
    Good luck!!!

    Try Virtualdubmod to edit those mpeg2's instead of converting them to avi. Chances of getting audio sync problem are greater when mpeg2 is converted to avi and back to mpeg2.

    I guess you are not quite happy with UVS7 lossless mpeg2 editing?
