  1. Hello
    I ahve a G4 dual 1gz with 768 RAM

in the lower bay a few months ago I put in a Pioneer 8X DVD-R. Toast 6.03 rocognized it but I had to wait for a iDVD patch to make iDVD 4.01 to be able to burn a DVD from iMovie 4 under 10.3.2

with 10.3.3 and the security patch, still being iDVD 4.01 when I 'share' my movie to iDVD, make a very simple DVD intro, the computer takes hours and hours to "multiplex" or whatever its doing and I do not get a DVD I just quite the app and give up.

this is what initially happened with the 8x burner under 10.3.2 before the 4.01 patch.

any ideas? do the 8x burners from pioneer work in 10.3.3 with iDVD 4.01?

    thanks for your help rotut

There are ways to make iDVD not burn the DVD, but rather save the DVD folder or image to your HD. You could then use Toast to burn that to DVD-R. That would be my suggestion.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  3. Also one has to accept the fact that iDVD 4 has become unberably slow when multiplexing anything over an hour in length. I've had projects approaching two hours that take 6 hours to multiplex. Perhaps you're giving up too soon. Having an 8X writer only speed up the final stage of the process, the actual burning. It's getting to that stage that takes so long.

  4. Giving up too early is more than likely what is happening here. Idvd encodes your movie (check your settings to see if your background encoding is on or off- it can make a difference in quality, but also save you a lot of time... if your movie is over an hour- get ready to wait!) It always looks like your computer is running spinning ball when processing, and I have seen tons of people give up early while the disc is still encoding or even burning! (your first Burn will take a long time, then the other copies of it will go by a lot faster!) Try to hit burn then go out for a couple hours and see what's going on a few hours later Good luck!
