  4. go up 9 bucks to 149$ and grab a VisionTek Xtasy 5864 GeForce 2 Titanium...

I've got a 1 GHz Dualy and it runs everything PERFECTLY, good 2d Quality all the way up to 1920X1440 and it runs Quake 3 at 65 fps (sometimes higher with a de-frag) @ 1280X1024

check out some reviews if they've been written yet, the card came out early last month

I'd dump the V4 immediately. It was a disappointment when it was released, and 3dfx went under shortly afterwards. There's also no future support for it apart from the drivers they have on their site; NVidia bought out the company, and obviously they have no intention of supporting a rival technology.

Having said that, I'd go for a GeForce2 Ti-based card, especially for Q3 Arena-based games (Elite Force, Jedi Knight 2, et al). If you can afford an extra $50 or so, spring for the GeForce3 Ti 200, and you'll be really current.

If you really want to save bucks, you could go with an MX400-based card, but the performance will be noticeably less.

In short, go with the GeForce2 Ti or a GF3 Ti 200. You'll love it.
