  1. Can anyone tell me how I would backup a DVD thats, oh let's say 6.7 GB on 2 DVDs so I dont lose any quality? I've always just used DVD2oneX and shrunk them down so they fit on one disc. I'd prefer to keep whatever menus on both discs if possible.

As for software, I have Toast, DVDBackup, MactheRipper, Osex and DVD2oneX.

But I also have a question on whether it's worth it to put them on 2 discs. Is there a very noticeable sound or video quality decrease when you take a disc and shrink it to fit on a DVD-R. What if you elected to not copy DTS sound, would the video quality remain closer to the original? Thanks for any help!

only option to do that is to do split disc option with dvd2one

this will result in a movie only copy thats split across two disks, and is done by layers of the source dvd, layer 1 being on 1 dvdr layer 2 being on 2nd dvdr

open dvd2one, choose JOIN and on the right hand side you will see
    Audio / Subtitles | Cell/Chapter/Layer

on the left hand side you will see the # | Vobset | size listing, choose everything in order from chapter 1 until you get close to 4.4 gigs
repeat for the remainder and there you go

another option is to join them together into one dvd. you would be to just process it as normal backup but follow my advanced tutorial it gives you highest possible movie only copy but you get a working menu. it cuts all the crap extras out.

  3. I don't understand Galactica's reply. How can you use the "Join" function to split a 6+ Gig movie over 2 blanks 4+ Gig DVDRs. Is there a "Split" function? Could you be more specific or direct me to a tutorial. Thanks.

  4. His reply should be tutorial enough. Open up your VIDEO_TS in DVD2PneX and select join, and select the chapters in the left pane. What is so difficult to understand? Open up DVD2OneX and try it and you'll see what is going on.

I have also done this (splitting a DVD-9 to two DVD-R discs) by ripping the first half of the chapters to one VOB (using OSEx and DVDExtractor 0.9b - for MacOS 9 - at the time) and repeating for the second half, and for all the extra features I want. Then, I demux the VOBs to m2v and ac3 files, and import them into DVD Studio Pro (Sizzle works too if you don't care about having menus). I then design menus for it in PhotoShop, set up a DVD project for each half of the content, and burn to DVD-R.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
