  1. ) have there been any problems or writing errors with mounting either of the 2 machines on a external enclosure ? ( LG 4082 vs panasonic 9852 )

    2) would any 5.25 inch enclosure do ?

    3) since my note book is only on a USB 2.0 connection

is there any pt of getting a firewire enclosure , can the enclosure be used for other purposes or devices ..

    4) i know that firewire connection makes it more stable and less errors in transfer ,.. say 10 % less errors than USB 2.0 enclosure ?

Maybe NO errors, compared to Firewire.

Some here think it is the Holy Grail.

    I use 3 external USB 2.0 devices.

None of my DATA files, which do not have ECC are corrupted. If a video is slightly corrupt, the wheels here say the ECC will fix it.

If time does not matter, just try it.

    Cheers,

    George

Look for an enclosure with the Oxford 911 chip. I recommend a combo Firewire/USB2.0. Might cost a few dollars more, but if you have problems with USB, you always have an alternative. Some people never have any problems with USB, some do. I don't think the brand of drive is that important, just the interface.

  4. any particular brand for an enclosure with the Oxford 911 chip. ?

Can I clarify that with a combo Firewire/USB2.0. if I encounter problems with USB 2.0 you get a a PCMI Expansion slot that gives you firewire capability.. THAT IS APPLOCABLE TO BOTH PC and notebook ?

red mentions that not the brand of drive is that important, just the interface ? ( you are referring that the enclosure is more impt since it has the interface ? )

Geroge mentions about ECC are corrupted. If a video is slightly corrupt, the wheels here say the ECC will fix it.

What ‘s ECC and what is this that ECC will fix it ??

  5. This has the oxford chip based on this other link.

Based on this link it (the above product) seems to have the oxford 911 chipset.

I think ECC is error correction built into the DVD format.

Also on choice of burners, there have been cases of certain burners not being firmware flashable in external closures, but I cannot deny or verify these reports.

For laptops, you can use a PCMCIA cardbus card. I have a Addonics card, I believe about $35US. There are several in that same price range. More expensive is a combo Firewire/USB2.0 card, but if you have USB2.0 on your laptop you wouldn't need that. For a PC, just about any inexpensive Firewire card would work. As far as enclosures and DVD burners, I just meant that any brand of DVD burner should work as long as the Firewire interface will work with the computer and OS. If the USB2.0 works for you, great. If not, then you have Firewire also. For cases, do a Google search for 'External Firewire enclosures' for Firewire laptop cards, 'Firewire PCMCIA cards', and those should give you some ideas.
