  1. I've been trying to find a DVD/VHS combo unit that can be made Macrovision- and region-free (hopefully permanently with a firmware upgrade). I've scoured the DVD player database here at dvdrhelp and I've done a number of searches through the forums and I haven't been able to find such a unit. Most of the combo units in the database only mention region-free hacks while very few Macrovision hacks are mentioned/linked. Does such a beast exist? Thanks in advance.

If you can get a standalone dvd player that has a dvd region free hack and macrovision hack you would be better off. You would be able to connect a hacked dvd player to your vcr and copy off the dvd player to vhs tape. Here is a link you may want to look at:

I own 2 APEX 1500's & 2 LENOXX 2003 that are region free and macrovision free. The LENOXX was purchased from COMPUSA many months ago. If you take a look at the DVD HACKS on this site, you many find a model and brand that is easy to hack. That's how I found the LENOXX brand which used only the remote to do the hack for region free and macrovision free. The APEX 1500 is done by burning the hack firmware to a CD-R.

I bought a CANOPUS ADVC-100 to convert my vhs tapes to dvd media.

This is true, I've been thinking about this myself. I take it you want to record from your VCR to DVD (all in one) macrovision free. Is this correct?
