    somebody told me tmpgenc can do it without recoding but I dont know how? also doesnt a program exist were you can have it like a real VCR.. You hit the pause button while recording and when u push it again it continues recording in the same file?

    this would really save lots of time from having to cut commercials out.

    What program are you capping with that doesn't have this? Almost all have a pause button.

    After the fact VDub is good for editing commercials. Set it to the direct stream copy mode and it will do it without trying to reencode. So fast and easy I wouldn't even bother to edit commercials before hand, but I don't do many AVI caps.

    Like alan says virtualdub is the way to go, very quick and very simple, and best of all free.
