  1. I have created several VCDs and one SVCD downloaded from newsgroups. Most of the ones I have burned have been .bin image files which I have burned to a CD-R using Nero v5.0.
(I also burned one using CDRWin)

When I put the VCDs into the DVD player, the player recognizes them as a VCD (it displays 'vcd' on the left side of the screen), but when it plays, the color is black and white, and the screen vertically scrolls. The sound is okay, however.

I created an SVCD that plays without a problem.

I am wondering what is causing the problem with the VCDs? My suspicion (justified?) is that the VCD may have been created in PAL format instead of NTSC. (I have an NTSC television)

To make matters worse, Windows Media Player 7.0 isn't playing my burned VCDs. It says something along the lines of not being able to get a set of filters to render the stream. Is there a good freeware VCD player for Windows 98?

    Thanks!
    -Randy

  5. This is because the files that you are trying to play are a different format to your tv, ie PAL on an NTSC player or vice versa. Their is a way on the Philips DVD711 to change the video settings, it is listed in the manual so have a look in there and this should solve your problem.

I, too, have this same problem. It seems to me that it's the software that's creating the problem. I have to delselect and reselect NSTC to get it coded right. My advice? Burn it on a CD-RW and play it to see if it's burnt correctly than copy it on a CD-R.

  8. I also have this player and have this problem, it still flips becuase you either have an ntsc tv that won't play a pal signal or vice versa, my question is this, is there anyway possible to play a region 2(i already have it on this setting) dvd, or pal formatted vcd on this player and have the pictuere come in properly on my american tv which has an ntsc signal?
