  1. ok, here's what's going on. i'm using tmpgenc dvd author and taking dvd sources either recorded on my standalone or another and creating my menus, titles, etc...

i successfully author the dvd with audio and video synched and everything seems to be fine. i play it on my pc and it's perfect. then i burn the dvd to disc and it plays fine on any pc i try it on, but only plays on a few dvd players. one disc that i got which had been recorded on another standalone i shared via bit torrent, made a copy for myself, and sent a copy to a friend. it plays fine on my computer and my dad's computer. the disc my friend got won't play on his dvd players, but will play on his pc. i tried my disc on my apex and my dad's norcent and rca dvd players. none would read it. but a couple of the people who downloaded the disc say it plays fine on theirs.

has anyone had a similar experience? any advice?

btw, i'm using a lite-on dvd recorder for sources taken from vhs and burning to disc with nero. if i use a different burning program could it make a difference?

What media ? -R, +R, -RW, +RW ? Brand ? You can use the database here to see if the media you are using is compatible with the players you have tried.

  3. that was my first thought, but i don't think that is it. i'm using maxell dvd+r and also have some maxell dvd-r. my apex will read +r and my dad's norcent both. my friend who tried it can usually play both with no issues. he is also able to play discs taken straight from a standalone with no problems usually. i know there were no errors witht he authoring process or burn process, but i think for some reason there might still be something in those 2 processes that causes this.

Maxell +R 4X won't play in my Apex 1500, but will play in my Norcent DP 300. Maxell -R 4X plays in both units. Your mileage may vary...

  5. yea, but my apex and my dad's norcent still play other discs that i downloaded and burned on the appropriate media. this is bugging me so bad because it has only happened on discs that i authored myself.
