I read on the 321 site that Game X Copy only backs up PC games. Anybody else have any suggestions on how to back up PS2 and Xbox games on DVD-R?

Dvd Decrypter will work for PS2 games. All you have to do is create an .ISO and burn (for DVD-5). You will of course need a modchip or other method to play them.

X-box games are an entirely different story. Check here:

Playstation is easy - just put the game in and do a normal disc copy in your favorite burning software.

XBOX you need to FTP to your XBOX, create a reversed ISO, and burn.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Is there a way to back up and play DVD-R based PS2 games without a mod chip?

Also, is that xbox scene thing about saving the games to your hard drive or can you actually back a game to a dvd-r?

To play ps2 backups without a modchip you will need either a slide card or flip top with boot cd and dvd, check google and you can find these items for your particular model.Alcohol 120% is good for backing up ps2 dvd and cd games.

Is the search box really that hard to find? This question gets posted at least once a week.

Yep, ripping and burning PS2 games with DVD Decrypter is the easiest way to go. Also, I would recommend just going with a mod chip over the other ways since it's the most convienent, and doesn't require any external modifications to your PS2 like the swap card or fliptop does. Also, a modchip is also helpful if you ever want to play import games as well.

XBOX games are read from the outside in. Microsoft reversed the polarity of the laser on your average everyday DVD-ROM to accomplish this (If you ever need to replace your XBOX drive, this is how you can do it). They thought it was uncopiable doing it this way. Alas, someone worked out that if you could network the XBOX, you could FTP and see the raw files. FTPing the files to your Hard Drive enables you to perform a reversing algorithm on the files, so that an ordinary DVD burner can burn them as normal but it is actually burning a reversed copy of the files so that they will play in the XBOX. This gets the game onto a DVDR which you can take with you wherever you want.

As mentioned by a few previous posters, you will be a lot better off and less hassled by just spending the money and getting the chips put in.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Actually the slide card method works very well. I would recommend this solution if you want an alternative to a modchip.

I would recommend www.modmonster.com for getting a slide card, they are pretty good. That is where I got mine.

If you are interested and want to know about the slide card and how it works, just send me a PM.

Also, is that xbox scene thing about saving the games to your hard drive or can you actually back a game to a dvd-r?
    Both.
