DVD-R or DVD+RW Writers== MYDVD3 or VIDEOPACK 5

I have just bought a Pioneer DVR A03 and have made some quick DVD movies with chapter buttons etc works great
It plays on the set top players i have tried so far except a Philips. Is this because Philips, Sony, Ricoh, Hp etc are heading towards the DVD+RW format?? and that my dvd writer is DVD-R?
If it is, I'm gonna buy a DVD+RW writer too anybody got any info on any of the DVD+RW writers... I've heard that some will be coming with the new MY DVD 3 software is this better than Videopack 5?

Philips 612 can play all the CD-r/DVD-RW or DVD-R made with A03.
