  1. Hi all,

    I want to download some trailers from the net showing the latest releases.

    Im unsure how to do this. I have read a few posts that were not very clear. I have downloaded Quicktime but cant get the trailers to save.

    I am going to a site called, http://www.apple.com/trailers/.

    Does anybody have any guides to follow or advice?

    thanks

    You can either right-click on the viwer and choose "save as source", or(I think) there's a menu button on the player that does the same thing.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

    The trouble is the clips load up in the the internet explorer web page, not in a player. I have tried right clicking and that doesnt seem to work either.

    Any more suggestions?

    First- saving movies that are playing in Quicktime only allow a shortcut to the file to be saved. To save an entire MOV trailer, you need Quicktime Pro. BUT this all depends on how the html and xml code is setup in the document. Some willnot let you save it regardless if you have QT Pro. A backdoor approach is to look at the source code of the refereing link to get the ACTUAL url to the trailer. The load the webaddress into QT Pro using the Open URL in New Player.

  5. Hell, don't even bother with all that. Check your cache after you've loaded up the movie entirely, copy the file to another directory, and it should work just fine. Maybe they've changed it in the last couple months, but I doubt it.

    But as mentioned, you can only save if you have quicktime pro

  6. Shudder, You say to look in the cache for the MOV files or whatever. I am using InternetExplorer. Where is this cache? I am using Windows XP at home and Windows NT at work. Thanks %}

    Also, offline explorer pro is a good program to use to download. I use it simply when I find an unreliable site I need to grab something off of. It offers a 30 day trial for free, so give that a shot. I can't remember the URL but a google search should find it quickly.

    They have. The quicktime plugin has an excluseive read/write lock on the file (meaning you can't copy it) and when you close the window it deleted the file. Of course you can hard reset the machin, but that's hardly healthy.

    You can save some file with pro, not all.

  9. Here is a
    Mac method I found maybe it can be used on PC also with some modification:

    INSTRUCTIONS: HOW TO FIND AND SAVE QT MOVIES FROM WEB SITES THAT DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO SAVE THEM DIRECTLY.

    Unlike M$ Internet Explorer, Safari uses an "invisible" folder to temporarily store the movies that are streaming in it's browser. I have yet to figure out how to make an "alias" to this invisible folder, but while the QT movie is still on the web page, use the OSX "File Find" command (command & F).

    FIRST METHOD I TRIED:
    In the FIND options you can add or subtract, In the bottom box called "Search for items whose": choose the following SEARCH options in the drop down "Add Criteria":

    File Name "contains": tmp
    Visibility: OFF

    IN THE SEARCH RESULTS WINDOW CLICK ON THE "DATE MODIFIED" COLUMN AND YOU SHOULD SEE A "tmp" folder or two at the top now:

    In my case there are TWO "tmp" folders, the one you want should be this path:

    YOUR HARD DRIVE/private/tmp/

    If you look at the latest "date modified' and or SIZE, you will see an ODD named file, "option-drag" it to your desktop and add the ".mov" extension and you now have the movie! The "Go Folder" method below seems even faster until I learn how to make an "alias" to this "invisible" folder.

    ================================================== ========================================

    ALTERNATE METHOD BY SOMEONE IN THE APPLE SAFARI FORUM (the "Go to Folder" option may be the fastest method):

    the /tmp directory is at the root of the filesystem, and is invisible. You can get to it via the terminal, by doing a search with visibility=all, or by using the Go menu in the Finder, and selecting Go to Folder, and typing /tmp

    That got stored as /tmp/WebKitPlugInStreammvKnVI

    Copying it to the desktop as test.mov worked fine. Streaming files apparently use a different mechanism than downloaded movie files.

    To find a cache file, do a Command-F find in the finder with these criteria

    Visibility: All
    Date-Modified: Today
    Size: Greater than 2000KB

    You may need to adjust size depending on how big the trailer is.
