  1. Whenevery I try to rip a movie now, using DVD Decrypter 3.2.2.0, the Read Rate of a DVD doesn't go above 2,800 KB/s (2.0x). Even when my DVD is in perfect condition and has no scratches. This way it takes about 40 to 60 minutes, or more, to rip the DVD to my hard drive, which is 160gb with 7200rpm with more than enough space. I have a 1.8ghz cpu with 512mb ddr memory, and my DVD-rom is capable of going up to 12x when ripping a DVD. I tried uninstalling DVD Decrypter and then reinstalling it but that didn't help. It still won't go faster than 2.0x. Is there something I can do to fix this? Some option I don't know about? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do a test with Nero DVD Speed Test and compare with the results of other users in this forum.

Maybe that's the capability of your drive.

Check and be sure that DMA is enabled. I've had Windows XP occasionally disable it for no reason.

  4. Thank you for the reply. How exactly do I go about checking if the DMA is enabled. How do I enable it if it is disabled. I'm a newbie to dvd backup so please excuse my ignorance. Thanks for your time.

If your ripping with your recording drive that could be the problem. Many recorders are locked at 2x and will not rip faster. Try a dedicated DVD-ROM drive.

  6. The drive I am using to rip is just a DVD drive. It is not a recorder drive. I have seen it rip at faster than 2.0x so I know that it will do it. It is just now that I am experiencing this problem. How can I fix it?

    For Windows XP:

Right click on My Computer, click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button.

Then click the '+' to expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. Right click the channel with the DVD drive (probably the Secondary IDE channel) and select Properties. Then click the Advanced Settings tab.

The Transfer Mode box should say "DMA if Available". If it says 'PIO Only' then click the arrow for the drop down box and select DMA if available.
