Hi, I am facing a problem with an Mpeg 1 file which i would like to convert to avi format.
The mpeg file i have is of a size 750Mb.
I would like to convert it to an avi format which can fit on a 80 min CD-R.
I can provide the following information about the file..
    File : 750 MB (738 MB), duration: 1:15:11, type: MPG, 1 audio stream quality: 55 %
    Video : 618 MB, 1150 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 352*288 (4:3), MPG1 = MPEG 1 (VCD)
    Audio : 120 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0]
Well i would be really grateful if someone could help with the above conversion. It really has me stumped.

Use Dr. Divx. It's a very simple Divx encoder that produces nice results. If you are looking for a more advanced tool, check out Virtualdub. You can find lots of guides on it in the "Guides" section on the left of this page.

Your Mpeg1 is 1.15:11 long That is 75.11 mins and will fit on 1 CD-R , is there a need to convert to AVI as any conversion is likely to reduce the quality of your video.

You should be able to just burn that to 1 CD-R as a VideoCD.

If you are looking at the file size and thinking that 738MB will not fit on 1 700MB CD-R then you would be wrong.

700 MB is for Data , You can get up to 80 mins of Mpeg1 on one CD-R which is somewhere I think just short of 800MB.

THx, i will try both suggestions.
As for the second one.. burning it as a VCD.. is NERO sufficient? Will i lose any quality if i just use its in built vcd burner thing?

Should be ok . Just goto create VideoCD add Mpeg file and burn. If the Mpeg is truly VCD compliant ( which it looks like it is ) it should just burn and you are ok . If there is any problem nero will soon tell you . It only takes a few minutes to burn a videoCD.

As for quality it cannot get better or worse as you aren't encoding anything .
