  1. I just had to say thank you to galactica and everyone else on this board. I've been a Windows user for years, and despite being considered a "power user" on that OS, I never did figure out how to burn backup copies of my DVDs. (For that matter, I had a hell of a time just getting my machine to PLAY commercial DVDs!)

Last month I treated myself to a brand new Power Book, with the super drive, and once I started learning my way around OSX, I went looking on the net to find information about making those backups. I stumbled onto this forum and after reading a bit I jumped in. I already had Toast, so I added Mac the Ripper and DVD2OneX, and Saturday night I managed to make a working backup copy on the first try! (Of course, I had galactica's great tutorial to use for a reference, but if I hadn't done some reading on the board first, I'm not sure I would have understood it.)

So I just had to register for the Forum, and say thanks. And let you know that your Forum is great. Now that I've learned how to do a backup, I still have to learn about the different kinds of media (DVD-R is different from DVD+R? I hadn't realized, I must have gotten lucky and grabbed the right thing at Office Max.) And I want to learn about authoring my own DVDs. And I just KNOW I'll be able to learn what I need here!

    Anyhow, thanks again to everyone!

    Merry
