i have a couple of problems with my dvd ripping
i have an older computer (compaq pentium 2, 300mhz, win98, 256mb ram) and i have tried to copy dvds to vcds using all of the methods on this site. the problem is when it is time to actually convert with tmpgenc, it takes about 20 hours when it should only take about 5 (i'm guessing). i am wondering if there is any way to speed up this process.
i have a solution to this problem but i dont know how it will work. i just bought a new compaq pentium4 1.5ghz winME. but it doesnt have a dvd drive. is there a way to rip the dvd files to the hard drive of my old computer(the one that has a dvd drive) and then burn them onto some cdr's and then convert them on my new computer because my new computer can convert video really fast. the only thing i was wondering was how to burn the dvd files onto cdr's. i woulg have to split them up into about 5 or 6 files and burn them onto about 5 or 6 discs. i have no problem with splitting them or using 5 discs. i just dont know how i could split them and then put them back together on my new computer.
any help would be appreciated
if you are very confused just email me at sitlet@hotmail.com and i will try to explain it better
thanks!

5 hours on p2 300Mhz! I don't think so. I have p3 800 and it takes 10hours for a 2 hour movie to convert to vcd. Divx on the other hand is about 4-5 hours on my P3. Anyway why don't you swap out the cdrom with you dvd drive. This would be a better idea! Cheers garman

ok thanks guys. i think i'll try to swap the dvd drive into my new computer. i didnt know what was the "normal" time for converting a dvd because the guide on this site (sefys newbie start ripping guide) said it only took him 4 hours.
thanks again for the help

And I stick by anything I ever said, don't forget the guide was made on a AMD Duron 700 CPU, your CPU is 300!, and the movie length was if i remember correctly, 80min or 90min, i've updated the guide so many times I don't remember
Either way, a P300 is just too slow, even the newer PC's take 3 to 4 hours to encode a decent length movie.
