  1. Has anyone else had this problem?
"I used the 9999 0 hack on my dvd Ph 727 and worked nicely for about 2 month, however, a few day ago while watching a movie I pressed something in my control and the image blacked out completely (not the audio) and I have not been able to watch dvds at all. The players audio still works fine though, but the image connection was lost. I have tried in other tv with no results, so the problem seems to be in the configuration. Anybody have an idea of what went wrong?"
I've found it here and in a forum. I've read that it only does this for the s-video and composite video outputs, not the component, which still works. Anyone else know if this is true or not? I'm considering buying this player but don't want to if its going to mess up on me.

  2. I heard about the same from two my friends. I thought their little kids did something. Now, it seems that Phillips has defective units. BTW, mine is working fine.

Maybe you accidentally put it in progressive scan mode.

    to deactivate progressive scan:
    1. open the disc tray
    2. press "left arrow" on the remote
    3. press mute button on the remote

Let me know if this works for you!

  4. no, it didn't happen to me. i read it in a forum at regionfreedvd.com and read it under the hack for the 727 at the same site. i was just checking to see if this was a problem others have had. it seems to be an isolated incident, since no one else has said they've had the same problem. i talked to the guy that posted it in the forum. he sent it to philips after it happened. they told him he needed a new video card, so they are going to send him a new player. probably was just a defective player. i gave up and ended up buying the philips anyway, so far no problems. hope it continues this way. thanks.

  5. If you had it connected through S-Video or Composite and applied the hack chances are the video can go out.Component will still work.I found the solution to fix this problem and emailed a member who had the same problem.Go to the menu in the DVD player and look for "Default".You can reset the player to default and the s-video and composite connections will work again.Unless its somthing else.By the way,do not appy the hack for the DVD-727 and see if the it will play Pal and differnt region disks first.Mine plays Pal and other region DVD's out of the box.No need to apply the hack if it works out of the box.
