ATAPI 4X DUAL DVD WRITER HELP

I just purchased a time computer witha ATAPI 4X DUAL writer in it. It plays my +r dvds fine but does not allow me to make back ups.....i'm using Pinnacle Instant DVD and in the profiles +r is not listed although +rw is......does this mean the writer is not a true multi-format writer

If you use Nero, it should already be on your system.

Actually, as +RW predates +R, not all +RW devices can handle +R. But this is just a point of technicality, as devices that do only +RW and not +R are old and, for all intents and purposes, long extinct.
