  1. hi

i created an iso backup of a dvd (4.2gb in size) using dvd decrypter (latest version) - but when i try to burn it using dvd decrypter i get an I/O error!

when i hit cancel i get a popup window come up that says failed to reserve track!.

the process that i used was changing the mode from iso read to iso w - and i select the iso file for the source.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanx

If you did a straight ISO read, then followed it with an ISO write then I would suspect media first. Are you using all the default settings and have you had success with other rips & burns (does this happen on every disc you try, or just one).

  3. well it was my first attempt at doing an iso file using dvd decrypter - as i am new to dvd recording. i was using nero 6 to burn dvds before - but after reading some posts saying it not that great i decided to switch to dvd decrypter to burn.

i have done about 4 dvds (tdk brand) using nero and had no troubles at all, i just had probs with dvd decrypter.

think easier if i just stick with nero - is there much difference in quality and stability - it all seems so subjective.

Although some would argue, you're right in that is is subjective. I've pretty much done the opposite of you in that I used to use Nero and have now switched to DeCrypter. I rip all files with Decrypter (File Mode), run DVD Shrink and create an ISO output file, then burn with DeCrypter(ISO Write Mode). Of course for single sided discs I could just rip with DeCrypter ISO Read and burn with Decrypter ISO Write but I prefer getting rid of all the menus, etc. That way the movie just starts when I put it in.

Whatever works for you is good.

  5. will give dvd decrypter another go with a different dvd brand (ritek go4's)
i do have one other question - regarding dvd shrink and dvd2one. after looking at some posts i have got the impression that dvd2one is better (compressing in movie only mode with variable bitrate) for normal length films (up to 2 hrs longs) and that dvd shrink has better results with long films and episode dvds - is this the case?

also if i wanted to do what was suggested above by creating an iso of a compressed movie and then burning in dvd decrypter - would i have to use a tool like ImgTool to make and iso first- as this sounds more time consuming.

    thanx

The answer to the first question could spark 1000 different opinions. I have both DVD2ONE and Shrink and cannot tell the difference between the two. I'm watching movies on a 61" Sony and an 84" projector. I've stopped using DVD2ONE and am very happy with Shrink. Shrink uses variable compression. I'm sure others have their opinion.

As for the second question. No, you do not need any other tools to create the ISO with Shrink. After selectiing your Shrink options (full backup, re-author, movie only, sound tracks, whatever) and hitting the "backup button" you will be asked to specify your output choice. You can choose to create an ISO output file on disk, and optionally have Decrypter start automatically and burn it. Pretty easy stuff.
