Just bought a Wi-Fi router and it's driving me crazy. It's a US Robotics wireless turbo (USR8054). I have NTL 600K cable broadband, and I wanted to share it with my desktop and my Acer laptop. The desktop works fine (10/100 cable to router), but the laptop won't connect. It detects the wirless network, and claims to connect with 'excellent' signal strength, but I can't get it to aquire an IP address. I left it connected for about half an hour, and nothing. Network properties says 1,200k sent, 260K recieved, and IP <unavailable>, although the router shows on my desktop computer that the Acer is connected and has an IP address.
Any network experts that can help me?

    Thanks.

    Tool Man.

Thanks, I got it sorted. The problem was with the network bridge. So I removed it, and it obtained an IP straight away. Strange. What affect will that have? What do I need the bridge for?

    Thanks.

  4. I believe the "Bridge" mode is used for linking 2 Wifi Routers or WAP's together. Typically used to extend WiFi service coverage area or join 2 wireless networks or wired networks via a wireless link.

Thanks. I got the internet sharing OK. Both computers can get online, but I can't share files between them. I created a workgroup, and ran the network setup wizard on both machines using the same workgroup name, but I can't access files on another PC. Shared Doc's only shows the PC I'm using, although the other PC shows in 'workgroup computers' but I can't access them. Any ideas?

    Thanks again guys.

jump into my computer, click properties of the drive you wanna share. there should be a sharing tab - tell it you want to share. you may need to restart, and then you're done.
