NEC ND-2500A 8x DVD+/-RW Burner - Is it Good?

Hello,

Can Some One Tell me if it's good? I have never burned DVD before but did CD

I will be copying DVD from my computers DVD Rom to this external drive.

This site keeps a database with user comments ratings - its the highest rated burner right now. If you are using it for ripping you might want to use the hacked firmware - refer to the posting above you (or below you now). If you're not ripping with it (reading the movie from it) then you don't have to worry. You got a great burner.

I am GLAAAAAAAD to see that Thank You. I never bought one before. I am going to copy DVD from my actual DVD ROM Drive in Laptop to this DVD Burner, until I get little more understanding of ripping and all. Also got my Epson R300.

I have the NEC 2500a and at 1st I was sorta happy with it, I mean it burns great, but there is no bit setting for it, which means that if you burn with a +R, it may not play in all DVD players or recorders, I am happy to say that someone over at dangerous brothers has put out a hacked firmware from a HP 420i, that you can use with the NEC 2500a, I tried it and it works great, now the +R's I Burn Play in anything I try.
Also any and every +R or -R media I have bought has worked in this burner perfectly, no coasters so far.

I have this burner and love it. Whisper quiet even when ripping a DVD at max speed, which for me has been about 10-11X. Get the hacked firmware by the Dangerous Brothers as it removes the rip speed lock and sets it to region-free. I have had excellent results with BeAll 4X and Ritek G04's with this drive.

Yeh, I've had this drive for about 4 weeks (in which time the price has dropped by another £20!!! ) and I'm v.happy with it. Now on my third spindle of blanks and have yet to have one single coaster. Have been using Bulkpaq Tangos (cheap) and they've all played flawlessly on my standalone and also my PS2. Brilliant drive in my opinion.
