  1. I have been making backups of my movies and have had success with them. However, a friend of mine told me there is a program that he has that will put the entire disc with menus and special features on to a DVD5 with no quality loss. I don't know how this is possible. I could understand if it was a Single Sided disc but most that I make backups of are Double Layer. Is anyone familiar with this software? He wouldn't tell me the name of it but with any compression, there is going to be some quality loss.

    And you believe this?!

This can be true in particular cases, where the DL-disks have only less than 4.38 GB.

Give your friend a link to this site!

Well, it would be pretty daft to make a DL-disc from less than 4.38bg. Why do it when you can put that amount of data to a SL-disc....

    Tell him!

Say him that you have a friend which can put an elephant in his VW Golf!
It is exact the same thing! Could it be possible? Yes if the elephant is just born, maybe...

Was it April 1 when he told you ?

It is not possible. He may have used DVDShrink or DVD2One which can produce no noticeable quality loss, but the purists would argue that there is quality loss in some way, shape or form. Methinks that is just his opinion.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. Is it possible to take 8.4gigs of data & make it 4.7 gigs of data with no quality change? Nope.

  11. NO quality loss indeed. Definitely not possible. Minimum quality loss, yeah, that sounds about right. Tell him that I can squeeze the entire Lord of the Rings and/or Matrix trilogy into a single disk with no quality loss using freeware readily available . Would he believe that?

  12. No, it wasn't April 1st when he told me. However, if it was possible to compress to 1 disc with no quality loss, there would be no reason to buy Dual Layer Burners. Anyway, I have been using Intervideo DVD Copy and it is doing good so far with the entire disc. My point to my friend was that there is always some quality loss with compression.
