I'd suggest using TMPGenc cuz for me that's the best encoding program around, combine it with VirtualDubMod.....if you're willing to use TMPGenc & VurtualDubMod, i can help you.....do a search in this site if u wanna download them..

  3. a lot of it depends on the source. The ole crap in crap out theory. What were your settings in TMPGENC when you did the avi conversion. Did you set it for the fastest time and not use other settings that would make the picture better???

As far as the audio "skips", that could be for a few reasons. Since I dont know what the source file specs are...

Why dont you list the specs of the avi file (screen shot from gspot would be best). Basically list the aspect ratio, frames per second, bit rate, audio sampling, etc.

  6. I got your PM. Didnt disappear, was waiting for you to post information that I could use. I, and others, try to help, but we ask for people to help themselves a little.

I looked over the pictures and see the issue(s)

    Source: 576x240, 25fps, 640 bit rate and audio is 128kb, 44.1mhz audio

    You are converting to:

    352x240, 29.976 fps, 1150 bit rate and audio is 224kb, 44.1mhz audio

The popping and stuff is more than likely due to the audio UPsampling from 128 to 224 (effectively doubling the audio). Also by converting from 25 to 29.976 fps, you are recquiring TMPGENC to insert 4-5 frames per second. The audio, which is set for 25fps is trying to "keep up". All those are contributing factors. The pixelation comes from a few places. Divx/avi is a highly compressed format and you are converting to VCD, which is at best VHS quality. If you were to take the original DVD and convert to VCD, the quality still would not be the greatest (albiet better than what you have now).

What I would recommend would be to do a movie conversion with these settings (352x240 keep aspect ratio instead of full screen, 23.976 FPS at 1150 bit rate and audio at 128'ish). For audio alternatively, you could use another audio encoder to encode the audio and then mux it into the video after you are done). You "may" have audio sync issues, however, may not. If you do, please let me know.

This guide will help you out for settings (I would only be concerned with the aspect ratio change part, but it is good reading)

i agree with macleod........you can use VirtualDubMod to separate the audio from the video......open the file in VirtualDubMod.......goto Streams then streamlist......highlight or just click on the audio then hit demux......now, whatever the format of that audio...i'd say you convert that into WAV format, cuz i think the audio has to be in WAV format if you wanna make VCDs and there's alot of audio converters out there....search in this site first.

After all the audio conversion, I would use TMPGenc to convert it into VCD.....use the project wizard so that it's alot easier, try convert it into VCD-NTSC-Film.......use the original file for the video and the audio in WAV format for the audio.....don't make any changes yet on any of the settings, let's juz see first what's gonna happen.

I would recommend Nero to burn it....lemme know what happen.
