When I first started backing up my dvd's I read here and then looked at some guides and for quality and putting the dvd on one backup disk it seemed that most people said....dvd decrypter, dvd2one and nero 5.5 to dvd.
little work but hey it worked and had good quailty(well what do I know it looked good to me)
then we see the one program backups, clonedvd, dvdXcopy.
I tried clonedvd....it was almost as slow as the 3 program 2 hd backups I was making before but it was easier, put in disk and hit go..lol
but everyone said hold the phone, quality of pic was subpar.
then it was dvddecrypter and DVDcopy....far superior compression in speed and quality.....hold on...it doesn't use the full disk tooo much compression. loss of quality
OK I have read everything I can and the post and more confused than ever.
What should I backup my dvds with?
same old way...
clonedvd...
??????
I want speed and quality and ease of use and that might not be available right now.
opinions, suggestions and flames welcome
edit=====>dvdshrink....LOTS of people use it...all the others say its subpar video quality
IS it subpar?
dvddecrypter and dvdshrink....would this be a good alternative?
maybe allforone and dvdshrink as an all in one use
thanks big time for input

I have had very good luck with DVDShrink, very easy to use. Select what features and audio streams you don't want to make it fit on one DVD. Or select reauthor and keep just the main title track)

I use DVDShrink. Compared to other transcoders, (DVDXCopy, DVD2One, CloneDVD) I've found it equal. Some may argue that this transcoder is better than that, but... For real quality increase there's no option but to do a real reencode with CCE or other encoder, at a lower bit rate, and reauthor the DVD. But then we're in another ball park completely, when it comes to time consumption, effort and all other aspects of this trade you seem to be better off without!

Okay, I don't intend to start a transcoder flame war, but if I were you, I would go back to what you doing. For simple movie-only backups, DVD2One does a great job. Yes, it doesn't have quite the flexibility that DVDShrink, and it's not free, but if you already own it, I would stick with that. I've tried lots of transcoders, but that's still the one I use. I have yet to see a good side by side comparison that shows that shrink produces a better quality backup than DVD2One. However, I have seen several good comparisons that show the opposite. I also had a problem with the only movie that I backed up using DVDShrink. Every so often during the movie it would jump, as if a couple of frames had been removed from the film. A problem that has only occurred with that one disc, so don't tell me that it was the media. Disclaimer. Just because I said that I prefer DVD2One for simple movie-only backups, doesn't mean that everyone should use it. I bought it long before DVDShrink existed and I've tried both and prefer DVD2One. If you're happy with DVDShrink, then keep using it. If you have both, I'd suggest DVD2One because of quality issues on longer movies.

I will give dvdshrink a try this weekend.
