    Folks,

I'm attempting to use ffmpeg, to process the muxed MPG's from EyeTV, and produce a Quicktime MPG that is demuxed... Preferably in one step...

Right now, I can do the following:

    1) Demux the MPG from EyeTV
    2) rename the M1V to a MPG
    3) Export the MPG to a MPG4 file
    4) Extract the Audio as a MP3 from the original file
    5) In Quicktime Pro, select the MP3 audio track
    6) Open the MPG4 in Quicktime Pro and Add Scaled the audio.
    7) Save a MPG4 (w/seperate Audio / Video Tracks)

This should allow me to use it in IDvd & DVD Studio Pro.

But I would like to simplify the process...

    Any suggestions?

  2. Use the Fast DivX quick preset and directly convert the mpg file to an avi mpeg-4 file. Then use DivX Doctor II on it so as to obtain a .mov wrapper. Open that .mov wrapper in any Quicktime application.

    (1) Demux your EyeTV recording
    (2) resample the audio at 4800 Hz with ffmpegX
    (3) Author with ffmpegX or sizzle
    (4) Burn

Cuts iDVD & DVD SP out of the picture, but it'll save you many hours of work without having to re-encode the video. it will also allow you to author 10 times as much content on one disk.
Listen not to the Devil, for he mixes lies with the truth... and vermooth.

  4. You could also try to put your EyeTV movies in a folder, and use the S/VCD>DVD tool on it, and burn.

I guess I could do that, but I am attempting to create "collection" discs of multiple shows on a single DVD.

For example, two episodes of StarGate SG-1...

Since they are two different files, I am under the impression that I would have to create two discs if I have ffmpegx "author" the disc?

Even so, I am adding menus, backgrounds, and sound to the motion backgrounds via DVD SP2....

I have the feeling I'll have ffmpegx create the BattleStar discs, simply to get them out of the way....

I realize your trying to help, and I *will* re-examine Sizzle... But the UI on Sizzle is not very nice..... Or at least, at first attempt, I found it extremely confusing...

The fact is, that I have IDvd because it came with my computer, and would like to find a nice way to integrate EyeTV -> IDvd or DVD SP 2...

There has to be some way to go from muxed video/audio to a combined but unmuxed format... (i.e. Muxed MPG 1 to unmuxed MPG 2/4, etc)
I find it hard to believe that it can't be done simply in ffmpegx.

Yes, going from mpeg-1 to mpeg-2 is called "encoding". Select the DVD quick preset and encode your mpeg-1 file with it. The "Keep elementary streams" option will generate the .m2v file needed for DVD authoring in SIzzle or DVDSP.

However, the method suggested above implied directly authoring your mpeg-1 file in the DVD without re-encoding it to mpeg-2:

And the other method suggested above will allow you to use iDVD:

And finally the other method suggested above is a 1-click solution, though it will not allow to build a menu:

I donīt want to hijack this thread, but Iīm tried all the suggsted methods to get a working DVD from my EyeTV-files – All failed in some way.
Iīve tried to encode the mpeg-1 to mpeg-2 using the ffmpeg-presets.
Process Information tells me in the last lines:

error: could not convert audio track!
    **ERROR: EOF in WAV header
    **ERROR: failure reading WAV file
    INFO: [mplex] mplex version 2.2.2 ($Date: 2003/05/13 20:27:15 $)

**ERROR: [mplex] Unable to open file /Volumes/JohnSilver/xfilm/DVD/rohfilme/movie.mp2 for reading.

After this I demuxed the recording and tried to resample the audio. Maybe I messed it up using wrong values, cause the info said:

INFO: [yuvscaler] yuvscaler (version 1.7.0) is a general scaling utility for yuv frames
    INFO: [yuvscaler] (C) 2001-2002 Xavier Biquard <xbiquard@free.fr>

**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!

Iīve disabled the video-conversion - so I donīt understand, why the app is missing the videotrack.

The S/VCD>DVD tool works fine and fast. But the resulting DVDs are only playable on my Cube, not on my Medion 3901. They are starting, but sooner or later the movie stops and the only chance to get it running again is to switch the power off and on. Thatīs better, than every DVD Toast 6 is giving me. Those disks show me an ugly menu and nothing more, neither on my stand-alone-player nor in my computer.

You see: I ran aground and Iīd appreciate any help

Prefer to enable the "decode with mplayer" option when transcoding mpeg to mpeg-2.

When you directly author a S/VCD as DVD, you obtain a non-compliant DVD which only some players are able to handle (check compatibility list for "SVCD-DVD" compatibility, apparently only a few Medion players can handle them). So in your case you should re-encode by using the DVD preset and enabling "Decode with mplayer".

    Thx, major,
I try the way with mplayer – canīt say anything yet, cause it will need days on my G4 450. However: Great job, major, keep up the good work!

I did the way, major has suggested. After 41 h encoding the process failed with the message:

    INFO: [mplex] New sequence commences...
    INFO: [mplex] Video e0: buf= 237568 frame=000000 sector=00000000
    INFO: [mplex] Audio c0: buf= 4096 frame=000000 sector=00000000

INFO: [mplex] Starting new output file...
**ERROR: [mplex] Need to split output but there appears to be no %d in the filename pattern /Users/tom/Movies/movie.mpg

I have no idea what "no %d" means. What did I wrong?
    This is what I got: a uncomplete mpg, a 2 Gig - mpv-file and a 140 MB-mpa - file (original eyetv-file is about 1,9 gig).
    Any suggestions?

  13. This "% bug" has already been spotted and will be fixed in the next version. You can rebuild your file by using the "Mux as.." tool to combine back the mpv and mpa files.

    Editing Issues

Problem: I can't use iMovie to edit my recorded show(s).

Solution: The MPEG-1 streams that EyeTV produces have the audio and video intermixed, or muxed. Due to a limitation of QuickTime they cannot be directly edited.

There is a long and involved process to convert the MPEG-1 streams that EyeTV produces into something that iMovie can edit. You have to separate the audio and video streams, convert them into a different form, and then recombine them.

    You'll need these programs:

    SoundApp
(a free audio conversion program which works in Classic or OS 9)
    http://www.spies.com/~franke/SoundApp/#download

    bbDEMUX
(a free MPEG demuxer which is for OS X)
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/macbbdemux/

    MAD
(a free audio conversion tool for OS X)

  15. I started another thread before I found this one. I just want to confirm that eyeTV mpegs can easily be converted using the fast DIVX preset & then DIXV Doctor.
Well, I can confirm it because it worked for me - once.
I dunno what the frig I am doing differently now that I want to try it again, but it wont work. FYI here is what I posted on new topic:
    ---------

Hi Have EyeTV & so lots of captures from there. Somewhere I saw a hint about quick & easy conversion of EyeTV mpegs - it worked! Just use ffmpeX with the fast DIVX preset, then use Divx doctor to put a .mov wrapper on it. The very first time I tried it, it worked!! Fast & great for my purposes! No demuxing! I was thrilled. BUT ITrying now a few days later can't get it to work again!!! The process window opens & I get a nice chime very quickly saying 'finished' but there is no result! No movie created?! {yes I am sure about that} So what lame-brained mistake am I making? I know it CAN work because it did before. I tried with an original file created by eyeTV, one using their 'save as quicktime' and one using their 'burn as VCD' - they are still all muxed files but slightly different so I thought I try them all - no luck. Anyone ever try this? Thanks!
