hi there
I'm using DVD-Lab to compile a dvd, with the main menu and an "extras" menu.
if I select on Powerdvd the "root menu" or "title menu" when I'm playing the extras, it will come back to the extras-menu, NOT to the MAIN menu....
So I dunno how its going to work on my standalone... what will happen when I click on the "dvd title" button? will it come back to the extras menu or the root menu??
is there an standard for dvds? I guess it would make more sense to come back to the root menu.... but how can I achieve that???
thanx

Your standalone will probably behave just like PowerDVD so don't burn yet.
Which version of DVD-Lab do you use? From 1.4 (which is still Beta) you have the option to create VMG and VTS menus. One of the VMG menus is always the title menu and that's the one you get to when you press Title. Each VTS can have one root menu and that's the one you get to when you press Menu while playing a video from that VTS.
Can you try to describe how you have the DVD authored? A screenshot of the "Connections" would be helpful. -
well, here's a screenshot.
please be nice if there's too much errors here... I'm really still learning the software. anyway, here it goes:
oh, and by the way, I'm using version 1.3... since 1.4 is still beta, I'd like to stick with this one... but can I achieve what I want still with this version??
thanx!
(just for the record: there is 1 title menu, from where u can go to:
-main movie
-chapters
-extras

Version 1.3 can't create VMG menus so you can't have a title menu. It can create only one VTS so you can only have one root menu. I think it creates a default VMG title PGC which jumps to the root menu so pressing title or menu on your remote will both have the same effect (go to the root menu).
There's nothing wrong the way you've constructed the DVD. Since with ver 1.3 you can only have one VTS DVD-Lab is trying to be smart and when you press Menu it takes you to the menu from where you started the video (actually when you press Menu by default the DVD calls the root but I assume DVD-Lab from there links to the menu that started the video).
Connect Movie 3 and 4 to the Root (when they finish playing you'll go back to the root menu). Maybe then DVD-Lab will assume when you press Menu same thing should happen and author accordingly. This is just a wild guess. If this doesn't work probably there's not much you can do from inside DVD-Lab. You can modify it easily with IfoEdit but you need to now a bit about the DVD architecture.
Try 1.4 Pro. It can create proper VMG menus and more than one VTS. Then you can put the movie in one and the extras in another VTS and each one can have its own root menu. However, being Beta, play the DVD from start to finish with a software player before burning. And maybe burn to RW first just in case. -
thanx a lot for the info!
I'm goona try the tips, connecting the movies...
and later, try 1.4... I guess it can only get better!!
thanx for the time and patience!
