I rented "the runaway jury" the other day and liked it a lot. It's based on a novel by john grishm...obviously the book is better.

  10. Pitch Black.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

  13. The Gods Must Be Crazy
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080801/

Some very Politically Incorrect on so many levels forgotten gems from the far out '60s (trust me, you will never see any of these on cable )

Mondo Bizarro / Mondo Freudo (Double Feature)
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063321/
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0188909/

Netflix doesn't stock much of the Something Weird titles, so if you want to explore further, Walmart has some of the more extreme stuff like -

    Primitive Love / Mondo Balordo
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057844/

A Smell of Honey, A Swallow of Brine (one of the first roughies...and considered hardcore porn in its day)
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180177/

It's more entertaining to watch this with the commentary ON -
You'll also hear about how producers in those days destroyed their films after they played a few times just so the pirates couldn't bootleg them under other titles.
Now they're regretting it, 'cause they never knew their films would have a future on DVD.
These were made way before video was even a concept.

    Back to Netflix:

    Cartoon Crazys: Banned and Censored
These weren't banned or censored a few decades back, but you'd never see these on TV nowadays for many reasons

    Chariots Of The Gods
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065702/

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0249418/

Sex at 24 Frames Per Second (semi-interesting if you want to explore the history of sex in the movies)
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383630/

Would really be interested in getting some feedback on any of these (you just have to see 'em to believe 'em) titles:

    The Seduction of Mimi
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068950/

    Amarcord
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071129/

    My Life As A Dog
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089606/

    Querelle
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084565/

    The Decameron
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065622/

    Flesh for Frankenstein
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071508/

    Fritz The Cat
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068612/

    Heavy Traffic

  14. Wow, for a rookie - that's a pretty good list! I'll add one I suppose...

    <<What's up Tiger Lily>>

Woody Allen's first and one of my fav. - mainly because he's not starring in it.

At Netflix, browse the Independent area: Brother's Keeper, Slingblade, etc. Lot of good stuff that's not mainstream. Foreign is also good, but takes a little more effort to find gems.

  18. All right, call me a commie but... My all-time fav. is Frank Capra's You Can't Take It With You. I just love the way Capra movies make you feel. I would say sorta like It's A Wonderful Life - but everyone is so sick of that one they'd probly rather have a hot iron stuck in the eye!

No way will you find that one at Netflix

Try DVD Avenue for that movie.

    Stalag 17

And the porn version, Stalag 69 starred Star Trek's Angelique Pettyjohn in one of 3 hardcore films she made in her career.

She had also done episodes of Batman, Get Smart and Love American Style before entering a lengthy nudie career in a string of R-rated B-movies...then reduced to making hardcore porn.

I saw it when it was playing in the theaters. What a truly disturbing film, and I've known heroin addicts all my life! I walked out of that movie feeling disturbed and emotionaly drained. I ******* loved it!

  26. TGPO gave some good movies and "Welcome To The Dollhouse" is indeed an awesome indie movie....

I would also suggest Mystery Science Theater 3000 movies, they are pretty funny !!!
