Verizon sucks terribly. I can't use my phone in the house cause the neatest tower is 16 miles away.
I'm thinking about sprint, they what looks like good servive, unlimited AIM, unlimited web, picture phones, speaker phones, ready link. and best of all there's a sprint tower 100 yards down the road. (next door lol)
So i think i'd like sprint service, now here's my two questions
1.) if anyone lives in Towson MD or Harrisonburg VA, how is sprint there? It's good if my phone works at home but i'll be going either to Towson or JMU so i'm curious
2.) There's no way out of a 2 year contract if ur service is horrible without going to court is there?[/list]

i can answer no 2,im with sprint now. you can get out of your contract, its either 100 or 175 bucks. i think its 175. yes, i guess if you are REALLY unhappy, you can call customer service and talk to a bunch of people and maybe one of them will let you. but other wise its a lot of money. i know if you are having trouble paying your bill, you can have the phone "shut off" for a few months, but you will still have the contract

Check out Cingular. One of my daughters has it and loves it.
Another of my daughters does the phone buying for her company, 60 or 70 at a time, and goes with what the vendor is offering the best hardware deal on at the time. I got screwed into a 250 buck phone dedicated to the Nextel network, only works on Nextel towers, and don't have service from 100 yards from my house to 2 miles north, nor 1/2 mile south of my house, and have to roam the house to keep a signal.
Also no service from Mercer, PA, to Erie, PA, approx 100 miles of "dead zone", absolutely useless when I visit the kid in Erie..
At least most of the others can talk tower to tower.

I dont remember seeing free nights and weekends with Cingular.
How are there phones for multimedia like AIM, camera phone, internet. -
I currenly have Verizon, there service in New Jersey is good but I'm just plain tired of Verizon, so I have been looking into T-mobile they seem to have good share plans and it seems like the service is not bad.
I have seen several deals on the Motorola v300 which is a camera phone.
do a search on the net for v300. -

sprint sucks, their coverage is alright but their customer service is horrible. not worth the headache. att has good coverage, their customer service is off and on. cingular is a good company but only digital coverage so if you live in the boondys forget about it, same goes with t-mobile. might wanna try and upgrade your phone sometimes helps. but the bottom line is that all cell phone companys suck....
-
Glock,
I'd have to question the digital only coverage. All the phones sold in the states now are tri-mode, analogue, digital and SMS. They won't even activate a phone that only has A and D or I'd still be using my StarTac, best one I ever had.
I'm about to go to either Cingular or Verizon. I've had Verizon as Bell Atlantic and was happy with it.
Just keep away from Nextel, it absolutely sucks.
Cheers,
George -
well sometimes when they say differnt modes it means different frequencies. europe and usa operate off of different signals etc. cingular and t-mobile are pure digital providers. analog is about dead anyways, the only reason you get better signal in the middle of nowhere is cause the analog towers were the first to go up. everything is turning to digital these days. but by the time they finish putting up digital towers everywhere satellite phones will be on the rise.

Yeah, Europe uses GSM, Global System for Messaging, I think it is. Hell of it is, they ALL use it, so you go from here to there, your phone works perfectly (Europeans would have to verify that, it is just what we are told)
We, on the other hand, have true competition, which means we don't play nice with each other, just like the + - R format wars.
But, no, I think that all the older towers and new will work with both analogue and digital signal, but they prefer you to use the new phones with SMS. Must be easier on their systems.
Just keep away from Nextel and T9 or whatever they call it, only over their own towers.
Cheers,

My phone is duel band (800MHZ CDMA) and (1900MHZ PCS) band but it is digital only.
Verizon sells many many Digital only phones.

I would think, Cingular or ATT. Actually, Cingular is buying ATT's wireless network, if it passes the regulators. When it does, they will be the largest.

There really is no good or bad cellphone companies. There a hit or miss type of thing. If you want sprint I think they give you a two week trial period. If you do not like it bring back with the first two week's. sprint has alot of other compies using there network for prepaid cellphone's you could go to bestbuy or target and buy a http://www.virginmobileusa.com/ cellphone and see how it is and if it work's fine bring it back and get a sprint phone. You could also try a ATT GO phone you can buy them at target for 40 dollars you get 400 minute's and free weekend's prepaid phone. And you can bring that phone back if yoy just want to test ATT service. Do not buy any phone if they are not willing to give you a two week test drive.

I got a Sony-Ericsson T610 a little over 2 months ago and I love it. Great color screen, camera, games.
Got good reception with T-mobile in my area, even places where I was getting no reception with my old Nokia 8290 (also with T-mobile).
I have seen alot of deals out now for this phone too.
