Sony designs dual-layer DVD recorders
You can cram a couple more hours of video onto your next homemade DVD with
one of Sony’s dual-layer DVD recorders. Both the internal and external DVD
drives can burn double layer DVD+Recordable discs that hold up to four hours
of high-quality MPEG-2 video or up to 8.5 gigabytes of data, music and
images. That’s nearly double the amount of available storage on standard
DVDs. The new burners also can burn single layer recordable and rewritable
DVDs using both the + and - formats, as well as CDs. The internal DRU-700A
costs about $230 while the external DRX-700UL drive is $330. Both work with
computers running Windows 2000 or Windows XP. They’re due in stores this
summer.
