What are the advantages of ripping as an ISO vs Files?

I can't rip as ISO since I'm still on an ancient WIN98 machine and am limited to only 4GB files, but will be upgrading my computer shortly after the PCIExpress Bus is available.

    Thanks

  2. none really. unless you need an image for repurposing later on. or burning an image is more successful than burning VIDEO_TS folder and files.

    Thank you for your response.

I am a bit confused with Repurposing? Is this Re-Authoring?

If I plan on working with the video, will most authoring programs
accept on ISO image or do I need to stick with a file system?

    Thanks again.

yes, just mount the image with any DaemonTools freeware.
repurpose...to use in any other manner (or in any other program). in this case where an image is more appropriate than the files themselves. remember, to extract most dvds as image your file system must be NTFS. good luck.

  5. If you are going to be working with the movie stick with the file system. That is more commonly used by programs to import a movie. Iso's have a big advantage in their ability to be put on a disc. An iso is the disc image that is written to the dvd. So if you output and save a movie as an iso you can open up nero or decrypter and burn it to a disc whenver you want. It only takes about 10-15 minutes burning an iso at 4x.

Personally if you are making copies to save and on your hd I would write them as an iso. That way you can burn as many backups as you like with that image file. Also you can use isobuster to open up that image and extract the video_ts file very easily.

It only takes 10-15 minutes to burn as files on a DVD disk to. Files vs ISO will not give you any speed advantage as far as I can tell. I started using Nero to burn my movies. But found more success in saving to ISO and burning with DVDDecrypter instead. I get no pauses or slight skips this way as I do when I burn with nero using vob files.
