  1. Here's my problem. Just installed at new Pioneer DVR-107D in my 400MHZ Sawtooth AGP. I use Toast 5.2.1 to burn CD's and DVD's, but I haven't been able to burn at 8x speed. The firmware on my drive is already 1.10. I used Memorex 8x DVD-R's but wasn't given an 8X burning speed in Toast (only 4x).

If I upgrade to Toast 6.0, will I be able to burn at 8x speed? Is anyone out there burning DVD-R's at 8x speed yet, and is it possible to burn at 8x speed using 4x media?

I've burned a few coasters when burning at 4x speed with 4x DVD-R's (buffer underruns). It doesn't seem like my computer can handle burning a DVD and doing something else simultaneously, so I pretty much just leave it alone while it's burning. Any tips would be great.

  2. From what I've read on firmware hacking sites, only certain brands of media "certified" by Pioneer can actually be burned at 8x in the DVR 107. If you do a search of this forum for DVR-107 you find a thread where there is a link to hacked firmware for the DVR-107 that will allow you to select 8x burn speed no matter what brand or speed media you have.

  3. The main problem being that you need access to a PC in order to apply the firmware. If you only have a mac at your disposal, I know of no one who has reported success applying the firmware with these drives using VPC. As to your Buffer Underrun problems, if I recall correctly this problem was corrected with Toast 6.0.3.
What exactly is rotten in Denmark?
