yeah hi,
I am having difficulty with DVDR media (Both types). The problem is on many movies I've authored about 30 mins. to an hour in they start freezing and locking. If I check the original MPEGS (1&2) on my computer they are just fine, I use TDA 1.5 for authoring and it never complains about the MPEGs I throw at it. I NEVER have this problem with VCD's even with the most bent xVCD formats. I have 2 home players and they both will play any given disc fine One day and not the next. Finally my question is,Is the dye used on DVDRs far more heat sensitive than that used on CD's?? Is anyone else experiencing this type of problem? I use only name brand media i.e. Maxell, Sony, TDK etc. If one particular disc played crappy all the time of course I would assume the media was bad, however this is not the case. This unpredictability factor is pushing me back to VCD's!! ARRGHH!![]()

Don't have much to offer but......
Did you try using a high quality media?
I've found "made in japan" Fuji's to be quite good.
You may also suspect the burner, maybe not properly
calibrating for the burn. -
Hey Gmaq
ill bet your discs start freezing or having playback problems near the end of the disc. if that is the case then its a media problem.
to make sure this is media problem check your disck with dvdinfopro, and if you see any red flags you know it was a bad disc. -
This is getting ridiculous. On one thread, USE Maxell, TDK, Sony, etc. on this thread he DOES say that is what he uses and the reply is the standard "Bad Media"
Check the damned thing in a proofing program and come back with a "No Errors" and ask "Now what, it's a perfect disk?".
DVDInfoPro2 is a good one, as well as KProbe. See if you have errors. If you do, that is one thing. If you don't, now we look at players.
Check and post again.

Remember, everything here is anectdotal, I say, It is said, I heard and so on.. You might have to remove 1 shoe to count the number of professionals here.

Yeah, agree with gmatov. With the media you are using (both types), I'd be more suspicious of burner or player. Try your burns in other players before buying different media. This would eliminate the fault of the player.
What burner are you using?....maybe a firmware upgrade is needed, or maybe your burner is just in it's twilight...(it's dying). Burners are precise electo-mechanical devices...I think you know what I'm saying here.
Good luck -
Are you maxing out the bitrate? It's tempting to max out on bitrate since you can't fill up a disc with 30 minutes, but some DVD players (and media) can't play discs well if the bitrate is too high (so much for standards). A lot of people recommend shooting for about 6Mbps rather than maxing out at 8.
