Still have a job

WOW, this was a close one.

I've worked for the same company for 6 years. I went on a leave of absence (FMLA for the US people) for the birth of my first child and the day I started I heard they were closing my department down...... Yep I saw the other thread about loosing your job too... I actually heard my department was a gonner by another company, my boss didn't even have the balls to tell me....what a smuck!!!...well after sweating it for the past month on leave, I just found out the Pres of the company wants to promote me and move me to a new department...with a raise


Boy life feels better now!

Congratylations on the promotion and raise. Just one question: Is your old department really cloibg down, and about how many were dismissed and not geven promotion and/or raises?

We're going through reorganization where I work, but at least they just froze positions and offered 'golden handshakes' for early retirement. No layoffs. I went to superintendent from supervisor and now we are going to reorganize again. I have my choice of keeping my management job or going back to supervisor. Management is nice, at least I can try to make a difference in where we are going, but the stress is a lot higher. A steady job is a good thing these days, even with readjustments. Hope you have a good 401K or equiv. and a decent retirement plan.

No one had their job in jepordy except for me. My department at one time was 15 people and I was the last one left that was still working on the same project for the last 6 years. They moved me to a new one and the others will most likely be moved to others too, as they really were no longer part of my department anymore for work purposes. They were just under my budget.
