Split AVI in 2????

Hello,

first of all i´m not much in to this computer-install-stuff, yet! It´s kind of a newer world for me. Anyhow! I have this AVI.file that I would like to split in 2, so I can burn it on 2 CD
I have this program "Split me" and "MPlayerOSX", I allso got "ffmpegX_0.0.9a". I think I need a Mencoder if I want this to work, right?
I feel like mr Hopper in Apacolypse Now, in this jungle of stuff that I find hard to understand. Were am I suppose to install each and every program? (/Users/admin/desktop/binaries/?????? jesus!!)
Is there anyone out there that would like to explain all this to me step by step, in a more simplify way?

I have a G4, with OSX 10.2.6

Well, I'm very sorry, but I already read this page a few times and didn't find an explaination how to split the .avi-file. I installed everything like it is explained there, but how can I split the big .avi-file???
