Hello, I downloaded a set of SSA subtitles for my movie. When I tried to open it with my Sub Station Alpha program (it says version 4.08), it says:

13 lines were not recognized, and discarded. This is a Sub Station Alpha v4.00+ script. To play it correctly, please visit http://www.eswat.demon.co.uk/ and upgrade to the latest version.

But my SSA program is version 4.08. Anyway, I managed to open it with Subtitle Workshop but whenever I tried to correct the spelling errors and then click "Save", it won't show up in Virtualdub when I set up the SSA file via the subtitler filter. I opened the original SSA file and the subs appeared. But after I saved in Subtitle Workshop and opened it in Virtualdub, the subs don't appear at all. Why is this? I also tried to copy the entire script and paste it in SSA as a new file. I saved it and opened it in Virtualdub and it works but the are misalignments. The original subtitles had special effects such as those positional effects that are supposed to go under a certain area instead of the usual area at the bottom of the video. And I don't know how to reset those in SSA. I just want to correct the spelling errors and save, is there someone who can help me?

By the way, when I opened the original SSA files with Notepad, it said above the subtitles:

This script was saved with XombieSub.

But that website no longer works! This sucks.

I found that TextSuub likes SSA files better that the Subtitler filter.

Oh. Well, I found a solution! Instead of all the special positioning for signs, I'm just going to make a custom styles set for those where the font color is different and it will go on the top of the video instead of the bottom. It works pretty well so far. It's a good thing SSA allows overlapping subtitles. At first, it keeps on flashing blue when I click on it and I thought it was an error. But in Vdub, it shows fine. Whew! I'm so proud of myself! Thanks.
