  1. I just bought some Memorex 4x from one of the major office stores (good deal???). Well, I ran DVD Indentifier on them and got the following:

    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:ProdiscS03 ]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc Type : [DVD-R]
    Manufacturer ID : [ProdiscS03 ]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
    Recording Speeds : [1x - 2x - 4x]
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3 MB = 4.38 GB]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

While backing up one of my 9 year olds DVDs, it will only burn at 2x. I was using Ritek G04s and they all burned at 4x.

The discs are labeled 4x, the case is 4x, DVD identifier says it is a 4x (identified in my Optorite DD0203 burner), so why does Nero see a 2x (this is the maximum setting on this disc)?

The disc came with a disclaimer that some Pioneer brands need to do an update but not the Optorite.

What is going on? Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Pete

  2. when you insert the disk make sure it stops spinning before you click on burn compilation. see if you can set it to 4x then.

if you're still unable to set it to 4x then you might want to check for any firmware upgrades for your drive.
If that still doesn't work, return the disks or burn at 2x.

I've had problems with memorex in the past and won't ever go near them.

  3. I have 2 50 packs but I will try to move one somewher. I have othe Memorex (5 disc pack) and they burned at 4x. No wonder OD had such a good deal.

I think after this I will stick to Ritek G04s. Burned everyone of those at 4x and no coasters either.

I will try what you say to do and get back tomorrow.
    Thanks,

    Pete

  4. Make sure you update to the latest firmware. Previous firmwares only support 2x burning for Prodisc discs. You'll be able to burn at 4x after the update. You can find the region-free firmware at www.rpc1.com.

Good luck on flashing. My advice is to have a Windows 98 boot disk handy and use the dos version of the flash tool. It's a bit safer although a little bit more hassle.
Do you remember when TMPGEnc needed an English patch?

  5. Optorite's website is down right now. I went to the link provided and got a new 2.5 v of the firmware. I will give it a shot tonight.
    Thanks,

    Pete
