  1. Ok i have a plextor px-708A burner and i have read reviews on it and everyone saying that it is great. I can rip dvds in under 30min, but the only thing iam haveing trouble with is that it takes an hour and 45min to burn one dvd, and everyone says it shouldnt take you that long. I try to put it in DMA MODE, but it just stays in PIO mode and ive uninstalled the ide drivers. Ive even tryies those nforce remix drivers and they just screw my os over cause me to reformat. If yall have any tips please list them.

I'm not sure which nforce drivers you downloaded that didn't work. This problem has been discussed at the Plextor Forum site.

    Check cdfreaks Plextor Forum: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88471

    Go to this link: http://mwarhead.motherboardfaqs.com/
Download the nforce remix drivers from this site.

Make sure your Plextor 708A is on secondary master. It supposedly works better connected that way. Make sure you have the correct ASPI drivers. You may download ASPI from ADAPTEC site:

    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?sess=no&language=Engl...dkey=ASPI-4.70

If it still doesn't solve your problem I would suggest you contact Plextor's Tech support. In the manual their is a self test you can do to see if the drive is defective.

    Good Luck!

  3. Man, I had the same stupid problem. I then installed my Plextor in another computer, and found out it kept happening. Went out and bought another, installed it and it worked like a charm. Returned the busted one back. You may need to RMA the drive. Test it on another computer if you can.

  4. Ok i have downloaded those aspi drivers for my system, and those remix drivers for my nforce 2 chipset and yes it does set my dvd burner to dma 2 ultraa 33 but yet when i go to burn it reads the disc and stuff but when it gets ready to burn it just sits there. Some times i cant even play any of my cds, Only when i install the drives i had before i guess stock you would say it plays cds fine but it wont burn with a shit. The self dignotics wont even come up did what the manul said and it didnt work, so i thank i may just call them or just bring it back to best buy. If yall have any good idea on how i could fix this damn burner i would really apresheate it.

  5. I had the same problem this morning after upgrading the firmware to 1.06

Just go into you IDE settings and select "dma if avaible", it doesnt show up until you restart your computer, I had the same problem.

But mine always burned....just give them I call I guess.

  6. Try your burner on another computer, that solved my problem cause the driver still popped up as PIO Mode. Really ticked me off. I spent days trying to get it to work, if I had just popped it into another computer it would have been a faster solution. I even suggest you pop in another dvd burner if you have a buddy that will let you test ur setup. I took my friends DVD burner from his Dell and it loaded up into DMA upon boot. Then i put my plextor in and back to PIO Mode. I then uninstalled the Drive by going to My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager and uninstall the drive. Reboot and let XP find the Drive, but still went back into PIO Mode. I tried all the firmwares, different media, man u name it and I tried it. Finally gave up and got the same burner from Best Buy. Popped it in and went straight into DMA Mode.

If you can try my idea. If it works return your busted one, but if you can't then have it RMA'd. They'll send you a fixed unit.
