I have recently purchased a Sanyo Xacto digital camcorder which records the movie as 640 x 480 30 fps MPEG4 format.
I can easily transfer the resulting files to my pc and play them smoothly in the Quicktime player.
Now I want to edit these clips into a sequence and export them as a final video.
The problems that I am experiencing are that none of my video editing programs recognise the MP4 file extensions and will not accept them into the programs AND when ive tried converting the MP4 files with Virtual Dub, EO Video and PVAstrumento none of these programs see the MPEG4 files as a valid file to convert.
I am at a brick wall now and do not know what else to do - I hope someone else on here can point me in the right direction!
THANKS
Lee

Check out doom9 mpeg-4 guide:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mp4.htm
There you can see how to create an mp4 file, but with some thinking you should be able to reverse the process. MP4UI has an extract button so if you mark the video stream and hit Extract then you should be able to save the video file. Then do the same thing with the audio file. Maybe you need to convert the audio to wav somehow. Then you should be able to open it in virtualdub and multiplex with the audio to an xvid avi, which can be edited in virtualdub. But I have never tried it myself so I can't promise that it will work. Another option may be editing in Quicktime Pro. I think there is an export function somewhere.Ronny
