I am trying to make a SVCD with subtitles. The source shows the following info:VIDEO: DivX 5, size: 656x368, 25.000 fps, 1484 kbps. AUDIO: ac3, 48000Hz, 192 kbps. I follow the steps in the manual and I get the movie but can not burn the sub in the lower black zone. Besides, the final quality decoding with mplayer is not as good as decoding with Quicktime (or it seems to me so). I would like to see the subtitles under the images, how can I do it? And which size and bitrate must I use to make two movies about 29 minutes each fit into 1 CD of 700 MB? When I use the bitrate calculator I choose Pal and SVCD Quick Preset, then I write 59 min keep in 1 CDs of 80m mode-2 and click rate, the Video bitrate shows 1597 in red numbers. However, I have some mpeg-2 movies that were made in a friend's PC and shows VIDEO: mpeg-2, size: 480x576, 25.000 fps, 2530 kbps. AUDIO: mp2, 48000Hz,192 kbps. Muxrate:2.79 Mbps, Estimated Duration 01:29:17.51s, Aspect ratio 4/3 (TV), Interlaced, chroma format: 4:2:0

Another thing, I have read SVCD supports up to 4 selectables subtitles but I have not found information about how to make such SVCDs. Is it possible with ffmpeg?

I hope somone of you can help me.

    Thanks.

The SVCD format supports subtitles, but most DVD players that play SVCDs do not support this feature. You could check the sample SVCDs to see if your player supports it. The Video FAQ lists a few tools and links for CVD/SVCD subs, all Windows, tho'.

Next best thing would be to 'burn' the subs in the video.

Thank you Case for your quick answer. Finally I haven't checked the samples SVCDs because I haven't be able to download them. Maybe it's better, as you say, to burn the subtitle in the video. Even so, I would like to burn it in the lower black bar and not in the movie itself, but I can't do it with ffmpegX (or I don't know how).
Anyway, I'm looking for a new DVD that can be able to read SVCD sub, so I would like to know how to do them.
    Thanks a lot again.
