I can quite easily backup an original dvd using DVD Shrink & Nero. The disc will play fine in my standalone, without any problems at all. However if I wanted to make another copy from that disc, I get read errors all the time (CIRC & CRC).
My NEC 1300 that burnt the disc (Mirror Platinum +R), struggles to read it when the disc is reinserted. My Toshiba drive recogniseed the disc perfectly, but gives me the above errors when trying to copy from it.
I've used diffrent software too to try and get the job done, but all fail.
My best result was trying to re-rip the disc with DVDdecrypter, but took over 4 hours with all the errors I was getting!!!. The final result was very choppy too.
Does anybody have any experience with this, and could you possible give me some advice on whats going wrong.
Is it just a case of cheap media?
Thanks for any help.

The media you are using very well may have flaws in the recording layer. Cheaper, bulk media seems to be more suseptable to this than name brand stuff. What could be happening is that the copy plays fine because one small bit in the grand stream of all those bits means very little, except when a computer is trying to copy the data.
You could try this, if your burning software supports it. Try turning off all error checking when burning the copy. I know Nero has this option, but am unsure if others have the same/similar option.
Other than that, you'll just have to make backups of the original. -
Thanks for your replys, but theres one thing I forgot to mention before, and after browsing the forum, I think I know the solution to the problem.
I now think the errors are due to having lables on the discs. I never thought about that before, as I never realised they could cause problems.
From now on, I'll try them without labels and see if there's any difference.
Thanks for your help anyway.
