making television series dvd's..

Alright, I'm home on spring break with all my goodies, and my friends dad has a DVD burner.

I'm hoping to put some of the television shows on DVD.

This is the DVD player I own (I'm a poor college student!):

The shows I have are Alias and The O.C.

The Alias shows are all SD-6 copies. I believe they are SVCD's.

Is there anything else I should know about these in particular, or any tricks?

The O.C. shows are all PDTV-LOL, I've read that these are XVID copies.

Also, if I'm going to go through all that work to preserve quality, I want to put chapters, and I guess a Menu.

Last thing, all I have is 2 speakers and a Subwoofer, so if I can preserve sound quality and maybe make any of them smaller (even though I doubt any of them have Dolby Surrond), I'll do that.
