Is there a freeware viewer for VCD's that is a little more sophisticated than WMP? I mean, building a VCD is defeated by the need to pick files with WMP. I can as well simply copy MPEG's unto the disk and play them that way.

If you look under the TOOLS section over
<---- there
You'll find several viewers listed. For vcd playback, I've been using STHSVCD which I found there, and I've been pleased with it although it sometimes has difficulty handling menus and other vcd 2.0 features.
For just playing back simple vcd's though, it works fine.
