Does anyone know of any software that will display the GOP structure of an MPEG1 or 2 stream?

ReMPEG2 will display the GOP structure as it parses the file.

BitrateViewer will also display the GOP structure. Both of these programs do MPEG2 files. Not sure about MPEG1 files. Any Virtualdub version will give you the info for a MPEG1 file.

Only the purchased BitrateViewer displays GOP information but Vdub did allow me to determin that the default GOP structure for TMPGenc is

    IBBPBBPBBPBBPBBPBB

whereas Ulead MovieFactory 2 SE has the following

    IBBPBBPBBPBBPBB

My Burn Star portable VCD player accepts commercial VCDs & Ulead VCDs but not TMPGenc encoded VCDs. I thought by changing TMPGenc's GOP structure to match Ulead's I could produce complient VCDs, but I was unsuccesful. There must be another reason that TMPGenc is not ISO/IEC complient.

(Unfortunately Ulead does not accept AC3 sound - what a bummer, having to demultiplex, convert & remux prior to re-rendering to MPEG1 is just a little bit too much effort)

    Thnx guys

Which version of TMPGenc are you using, what template are you using and what stream type are you setting?

I'm writing this from work, so I can't be totaly sure, but the TMPGenc version is almost certainly 2.521.58.169.

The template is the PAL VCD template and that, I seem to remeber, constrains you to MPEG1 A/V program stream 1150/224/44.1 MP@ML etc

The length of the GOP is one of the few adjustable parameters with this template, the rest is nailed down pretty tight.

    Any clues?

Have a check that the stream type is on "MPEG-1 Video-CD" i know at least one version of TMPGenc defaulted to "VCD non-standard"
