Wanted to ask a question on DVD formats when converting!
well i know you get a jerky movie if you convert a NTSC film to PAL standards on TMPGEnc, which is a pain! But i presume there is no region encoding on the disc once it's done?
are all, or at least most region 2 players capable of playing a NTSC reseloution and framerate DVDs ?
If not what should i do when i encounter an NTSC standard movie and want it to play on PAL DVD players?
    HEEEEEEEEEELP!

Yes, most, if not all DVD players sold in europe will happily play NTSC format DVD's (as well as PAL obviously). When doing so they will output either NTSC colour signals, or PAL-60. Some can be switched from one to the other. In order to watch these movies you would need a TV that could handle the signal correctly. Again, most TV's sold in europe in recent years will handle either PAL-60 or NTSC (or both) without issue.

  3. Some more recent players like my JVC XV-N55 actually converts (very badly) 60Hz (NTSC) video to 50Hz video. It looks AWFUL (jerky and flickery!), and there's no way I can turn it off. I e-mailed JVC about it, and they just started talking shite about how they condone getting mod chips to play Region 1 DVDs - something I DID NOT ASK AT ALL! Retards.

I'm pretty sure *every* PAL DVD player can play NTSC discs in some way - either outputting it in full NTSC or PAL-60/NTSC4.33 or converting it into a hideous mess. If it only outputs it in NTSC colour (e.g. older PlayStation2s), which isn't supported by most TVs here (just ends up in balck & white), an RGB SCART lead will solve that problem as the colours are sent to the TV separately.
