    hey all,

I have been making backups of dvds for my children, and when i was encoding using dvdshrink, i turned it to region 0 (region free) thinking it would play anywhere that way.

however it plays fine in my dvd player, but will not even be regognized in my dvd-roms from my home pcs. They are region 1 formatted, and seem to only be able to read region 1 dvds.

Is there any way i can get my dvd-roms to play the dvds i have already made that are region free?

Look under the Tools section, try out any of the software that sets your drive to be unlocked or region free. I use AnyDVD and its worked flawlessly on tons of region free discs, as well as imports. Not free, but damn good.

well i dont get an error saying "wrong region" or anything... my drive simply thinks the drive is empty!

will that program sill fix my problem? will it recognize that there IS a dvd in there?

Well there are some free ones so its worth trying. Some drives might have RPC protection, I think most do actually, it could be causing this problem.

nope ive tried 3 region free software programs... no luck..

but i found out something interesting....
My dvd-roms will play region 0 dvds if they have menus on them. i re-burned a dvd with a menu on it, and it plays fine

but that doesnt help the other 10 dvds i have burned that DONT have menus. my dvd-roms just sit there and say "no disk in drive".

    any other suggestions?

There is another thread with a guy and his laptop with the same(?) problem as you. I don't think he got as far as re-doing the DVD with a menu this time but I suggested it to him to see if that solves his problem.

If it is empty it isn't a region problem or an authoring problem.

Do you see any files if you use windows file explorer?
Tried different media and different -r/w and +r/w? some dvd-roms doesn't like all media.
