  1. i have an external indidvd 8x and it doesnt read anything at all. its registered in my computer as drive f:, a dvd-r drive. it automatically installs itself but it cant read anything once i plug it into my usb port. maybe its my usb port... im using a pc card to create a usb2.0 thingy on my laptop.. its a siig brand that adds both a usb2.0 and firewire... i dont think its my pc card since i get da same error when i plug it into the firewire port... however when i go n look in my error logs... i see this:

The Logical Disk Manager Service failed while registering for device handle notifications on device \\?
    \USBSTOR#CdRom&Ven_TDK&Prod _DVDRW840G&Rev_1.04#7&38e3199d &0&2B03010A076DA849&0#{53f5630 d-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b} . Win32 Error: 2.

then again i think it mite be my usb cuz wen i look at the drivers i see:

    "universal serial bus controller"
    and rite under it, theres:

    "universal serial bus controllers"

  2. If you have XP DELETE THE drivers for your USB controllers. Reboot then reload the Correct USB 2.0 Driver that came with your Ext. Drive. That the quickest/easiest I can think of.
